A PREPPY STORY

Back in the 1980`s we found a wonderful sweater, that echoed the sweaters worn by students at American Universities. These Shetland wool sweaters were very worn, and in use had become matted and had an almost brushed effect.

These were so popular that a replica was made.

This was the brushed Shetland. Brushed, to make it look worn- no one then wanted to look too sharp-but mainly to make it soft.Shetland, in its pure form, can be quite itchy.

The only problem we had with our brushed Shetlands was the weight. They were substantial things. Heavy even. And quite a bit oversized.

New York in the Autumn, Fall, can be steaming hot, and the heavyweight brushed Shetland always seemed just a little too difficult to sell.

So here we are many years later and techniques have changed. The Brushed Shetland can now be both a little slimmer and a little lighter in weight, without the brushing process damaging the fine Shetland wool fibres. This is courtesy of a superb development that controls the degree of brushing with gentler `brushes` and by limiting the speed of passing the `brush` across the finished garment it is possible to create a perfect vintage look, a most modern weight and comfort, and still have all the style of the original, but a sweater you can now wear all year round.

Still correct for the Autumn Winter weekend, but perfect on a Spring or Summer evening over a lightweight outfit.

Sizing Guide

Please note that the measurements given in this size guide are actual garment measurements, and as all of our coats are individually hand made the measurements can vary slightly. Duffle coats are traditionally generous fitting. We recommend that our customers measure an existing coat and use this as a guideline for choosing the correct size against our size guide.

How to take the measurements:
  • 1. Chest - Measured around the chest at its fullest part with the tape measure tucked just below each armpit. Make sure the tape is flat across the back.
  • 2. Inside Arm Length - Measured from the armpit seam to the end of the arm cuff.
  • 3. Length - Measured from the nape of the neck to the hem of the coat.
